You might be a bit alarmed at the frequency of some of these suggestions: How can I post once or twice a day on Instagram?  Won’t my followers hate me for blowing up their feed? Remember, on Instagram, you can also post Instagram stories, which delete after 24 hours.  What is most important is that you are active on these platforms.  You can figure out a frequency that works for you.

Post at the Right Time

Posting on social media at the right time is essential.  Just think about it.  If you send a message to a friend at 2 o’clock in the morning, odds are she will not see it.  But if you send her a message at 6 o’clock in the afternoon, then she probably will.  The same rule applies with posting to social media: know when your target audience is most likely to be on social media.  As a general rule, this is usually during the dinnertime hours.  If you are marketing to a different times zone, however, you should adjust your posts accordingly.  In addition to dinnertime, anytime from 8am to 12pm is a safe time to post on social media.  

Save Time and Plan Ahead

You might feel a little overwhelmed by now.  I have a business to run.  How do I have time to also develop a social media marketing strategy across a handful of different platforms? Like anything else, you will have to plan ahead.  You do not want to be cramming and wasting valuable time creating and posting content on social media.  By creating a social media calendar, you can plan out the content that you want to post for the next few weeks.  In order to have an effective social media marketing strategy, you need to plan your content weeks – and even months – in advance.  One strategy that might work is to chunk out one block of time a week – perhaps two hours on a Tuesday – and chart out the social media posts for the next week.  This way, you still have time to collaborate with coworkers and teammates, and still not distract yourself from the other important tasks of the week.

Post Valuable Content

Though it is important to post frequently on social media, that does not mean that you should post low-quality content.  It turns out that most cliches are true: quality over quantity.  You want to post social media content that users are going to engage with, through likes, comments, and shares.  

You might worry that creativity was never your strong suit and that you cannot come up with any nifty social media posts.  That is alright.  Here are a few tips.  First, you could think of any promotions that you could offer for any of your products or services.  Once you have thought of those promotions, you can then promote them across your social media channels – that is a sure way of generating interest and engagement.  A second strategy could be to look ahead at the calendar, and take note of any holidays that might be coming up.  You could then gear your next week of social media posts to celebrate Easter, St. Patrick’s Day, or whatever holiday is looming.  Posting valuable content is dependent upon good planning.  You will not always be able to think of good ideas on the fly – you will need to take the time to plan out your social media content.
